Great Timeless Locations
Medieval majesty, drama and power all wrapped up in solid stone walls strong enough to repel the invaders of the past. Bamburgh Castle
is everything you want from a castle. An "everyman’s" castle with layers of defence keeping the enemy at bay.
The mighty barbican gateway welcomes you in today whilst the views from its high ramparts down onto Northumberland’s golden beaches far below are unforgettable. Definitely one of the most photogenic castles in the north. Inside, search the rooms for the tiny "Bamburgh Beast" then walk tall through the majestic King’s Hall and beyond it explore the historic core of this fortress of the past.
Then visit pretty Warkworth
village and try imagining the effect on the medieval residents of Warkworth as they watched with open mouths the walls of the Earl of Northumberland’s stronghold rising up in front of them, quite literally towering over their tiny houses huddled in its shadow below. This “worm-eaten hold of ragged stone” became a centre of intrigue and plotting in the early 15th century. So make time to explore the mysterious corners of these extensive ruins and hatch your own plot of attack. Then walk down the short hill to enjoy the pleasures of this peaceful historic village today.
