Northumberland

Re-garrisoning of Hadrian’s Wall, Various locations along Hadrian’s Wall, late May 2009.

The event will celebrate the lives of the communities that have lived along the Wall through the ages. Consisting of three main elements: re-garrisoning events carried out by re-enactors of the Roman, Reiver and Jacobite periods, contemporary interpretation of life on the frontier and a look at life today and communities along the wall. The Roman re-enactment will have an international dimension and aims to recreate for the very first time an entire unit of Roman soldiers.

Sunderland

Sunderland International Airshow 25 - 26 July 2009

The Sunderland International Airshow, held over the Roker and Seaburn seafront, celebrates its 21st year in 2009. The airshow is widely recognised as the largest free show in Europe regularly attracting up to 1 million visitors. It offers a spectacular flying display, range of static displays, attractions and exhibitions with an impressive arena programme in place before and after the amazing flying displays.

Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF), Stockton on Tees Town Centre and Riverside, 29th July - 2nd August 2009

The biggest street arts festival in the UK, SIRF is a spectacular 5 day summer programme of the finest outdoor theatre, street entertainment, circus, music and dance by artists from all over the globe. Supported by a 1,000 strong community carnival and our star-studded Fringe, SIRF 2009 promises its family friendly entertainment will once again prove worthy of the title ‘Best Cultural Event in the North East’.
