No wonder everyone is smiling proudly. Beamish has won Best UK attraction at the Group Travel Awards five times since the year 2000! And if you haven't seen oue newest attraction Puffing Billy and the Masonic Hall yet, you've got a treat in store. Your group is guaranteed a winning day out.

Open-air museum vividly recreating life in the North East in the early 1800s and 1900s. Take a tram ride to the town, with period shops, houses and Masonic Hall. Visit the Drift Mine, cottages, school and chapel in the Colliery Village. Meet the animals at Home Farm and visit the Railway Station. Explore the 1825 manor-house and fine terraced gardens of Pockerley Manor. Discover the early days of steam at the 1825 railway 'Pockerley Waggonway', with great engine shed and a splendid recreation of the 1813 steam locomotive, Puffing Billy.

Nearest major road is A1(M). Signposted from the A1(M) jct 63. Travel along A693 for 4 miles towards Stanley picking up signs for Beamish Museum. Postcode for Sat Nav users is DH9 0RG.

Public Transport Directions

Nearest railway stations are Durham, Chester-le-Street and Newcastle.

Waggonway service 28/28A offers regular buses from Newcastle City Centre, Gateshead, Birtley, Ouston and Chester-le-Street. Buses run every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes and hourly in the evening and on Sundays. Connections with other bus, train or metro services can be made in Newcastle, Gateshead and Chester-le-Street.

Service 128 provides a direct link with Durham City Centre. Buses run hourly on Saturdays throughout the summer season from 2 April to 29 October 2011. The 128 offers convenient connections with trains at Durham railway station and with other bus services at Durham bus station.

Lime service 8 runs every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday from Sunderland Interchange, via Washington, Chester-le-Street and Stanley.
